WORKING METHOD
The residency is organised around sustained exchange rather than one-way instruction. Participants bring projects situated within particular disciplines, histories, technologies, communities, and institutional settings. The group’s task is to establish conditions under which those projects can be examined with rigour, generosity, historical awareness, and conceptual precision.
Presentations and discussions may draw on papers, datasets, source code, models, prototypes, instruments, interfaces, archives, experiments, field research, diagrams, demonstrations, performances, technical documentation, or hybrid forms. No single medium is privileged as the default form of evidence. Materials are considered in relation to the questions they raise, the claims they support, the users and communities they involve, and the forms of understanding they make possible.
Participants will be encouraged to define key terms, state the scale and limits of claims, identify assumptions informing methods and design choices, and clarify relations among conceptual propositions, evidence, implementation, and evaluation. Discussion will attend not only to what a project seeks to explain or produce, but also to how its premises are embodied in data, categories, architectures, interfaces, procedures, and conditions of access.
Critical engagement is understood as a constructive practice. Feedback should neither simply affirm a project nor measure it against an external disciplinary or commercial norm. It should reveal the consequences of choices, identify tensions between claims and methods, locate unsupported assumptions or exclusions, and open viable paths for development. Participants are expected to respond to others with the same seriousness they expect for their own work.
The inquiry is intentionally plural. Its purpose is not to establish disciplinary consensus, prescribe one philosophy of evolution, or subordinate research to development or development to theory. Productive disagreement and methodological difference are necessary conditions of collective inquiry. The programme seeks a discourse in which incompatible positions can be clearly stated, fairly examined, and revised through encounter.
