WHO THE PROGRAM ADDRESSES
The open call is addressed to researchers and developers whose work engages musical change, musical systems, or the conditions through which music is produced, transmitted, studied, classified, preserved, and imagined. Applicants may work independently or within universities, laboratories, cultural organisations, archives, studios, technology companies, public institutions, community initiatives, or interdisciplinary teams.
Relevant fields and practices may include philosophy of music, musicology, ethnomusicology, anthropology, cognitive science, evolutionary research, acoustics, sound studies, media studies, science and technology studies, artificial intelligence, machine learning, human–computer interaction, computational creativity, digital humanities, archival research, software engineering, instrument and interface design, platform development, standards, preservation, artistic research, and experimental practice. This range is indicative rather than exhaustive.
Projects may begin from a research question, paper, dataset, archive, model, method, prototype, instrument, software system, infrastructure, policy problem, community practice, or speculative musical future. Participants should be prepared to present work in progress, examine evidence and assumptions, engage closely with the work of others, revise positions and designs in response to discussion, and contribute actively to a collective research environment.
The programme does not require participants to arrive with a complete philosophy of music evolution or to share a disciplinary background. Intellectual curiosity, critical openness, methodological responsibility, and commitment to sustained exchange are as important as the current state of any individual project.
